Day 1 Antananarivo/Perinet Morning
departure for drive through the highlands to the eastern rainforest
and Perinet Reserve. Stop for visit to La Mandraka Nature
Farm, then continue on to Perinet, check-in at the Vakona Forest
Lodge for dinner and evening nature walk. L,D
Day 2 Perinet Reserve Full day to
visit the reserve with early start to see the Indri Indri and hear
their haunting "singing" call. Mild hiking provides a good
opportunity to experience the abundant flora and fauna of the
eastern rain forest. Overnight at Vakona B,L
Day 3 Perinet/Tamatave Morning
departure by car for spectacular drive to the coastal lowlands and
Tamatave. Afternoon visit to the Duke Primate Center's lemur
rehab and relocation project, dinner and overnight at the Hotel
Neptune. B,D
Day 4 Tamatave / Maroantsetra Morning at
leisure before flight to Maroantsetra. Check-in at the Relais
du Masoala for dinner, evening nature walk and overnight. B,D
Day 5 Maroantsetra/excursion Nosy Mangabe
Full day excursion by boat to the island reserve of Nosy Mangabe,
just off the shore of Maroantsetra. One is sure to see the
curious brown lemur and the unique leaf-tailed gecko on a pleasant
walk along the shore; a more challenging uphill climb provides an
opportunity to see an ancient burial site and the black and white
ruffed lemur high in the trees. For the more intrepid, a
vigorous climb to the top of the island reveals excellent views of
the Bay of Antongil and the Masoala Peninsula. Return to
Relais du Masoala for dinner and overnight. B,L,D
Day 6 Maroantsetra/Antananarivo
Morning visit to the pleasant marketplace of Maroantsetra, known for
straw hats and bags, as well as the colorful lamba cloth, before
transferring to the airport for your flight to Tana.

Day 7 Antananarivo/Ft.Dauphin
Transfer to the airport for your flight to Ft. Dauphin. City
tour, dinner and overnight at Le Dauphin. B,D
Day 8 Ft. Dauphin/Berenty Depart for
Berenty Reserve, a 2-hour drive from coastal rainforest to the spiny
desert. Stops along the way to view the unique baobab trees, rare
three-cornered palms and funerary art of the Malagasy burial
grounds. Afternoon and evening visits to the reserve; meals
and overnight at Gite d'Etape. B,L,D
Day 9 Berenty Reserve Full day to
visit the reserve with walks along the wide, well-swept paths.
The Lemur Catta Maki, better known as the ring-tailed lemurs, are
very friendly and seem pleased to pose for photos. Be ready
for surprise encounters with the beautiful sifaka lemur as they
"dance" across the path. Other species include flying foxes,
lizards, chameleons, the endangered radiated tortoise and dozens of
species of rare birds. Meals and overnight at Gite d'Etape.

Day 10 Berenty/Ft.Dauphin/Antananarivo
Morning to visit the small cultural museum and reserve of the spiny
desert before return drive to Ft. Dauphin for the flight to
Antananarivo. Transfer and overnight at Hotel Colbert.

Day 11 Antananarivo/depart
Interesting excursion to the Queen's summer palace at Ambohimanga
and visit to the artisans market of Androvoahangy.
